PCNow Remote Control Software
This Is What I Call Ubiquitous Access!

Hmmm…this statement got my attention: “Work from home, access your office email from mobile phone, share files and folders with colleagues, share pictures with friends and family.”

PCNow will allow you to connect to your computer from practically anywhere in the world over the Internet.

Not only can you connect to your computer, you can access your files, programs, email, calendar and contacts, etc. from multiple devices. Sharing capabilities are built-in. As a matter of fact, you can use your mobile phone to share files from your computer.

The feature I thought was really cool: You can print from your remote computer in your office or home to a local printer where you are! This has far reaching implications.  Let’s say you were at a hotel in Texas. You wanted to print a document that was not in email or on your memory stick. Additionally, the program that you needed to print from was not on the local hotel machine (almost always the case). You can now print using your office/home computer software resource and it will print on the local hotel printer!

On the security of this network, PCNow uses a 128 bit SSL encrypted network. This is the network security that ecommerce sites use.

The system requirement are not burdensome at all. Take a look (my comments are in bold):

Remote Computer: This is the computer that you would like to control remotely. To set up this computer for remote access, you will need to run the PCNow set up wizard on this computer. NOTE: For the greatest results, it is highly recommended that this computer has a broadband (high speed) internet connection (DSL, Cable, LAN).

The remote computer should have at least:

  • Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP, Vista , Server 2003  <- You can even have Windows 95!
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later or Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or later  <- Who does have at least IE 4?
  • Always-on Internet connection (DSL, Cable, LAN)
  • You can print a document on the remote computer to your local printer without having to install any applications or print drivers
  • For Mobile Access, Windows 2000, XP, and Vista only

Local Computer: This refers to any computer which you will use to connect to the remote computer. A remote access session is established using a web browser on the local computer.

The local computer should have at least:

  • Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP, Vista , Server 2003
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later or Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or later
  • JavaScript & cookies should be enabled for the browser
  • For Internet Explorer only: ActiveX should be enabled for the browser
  • For Firefox only: Java enabled for the browser and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.3.0_01 or later installed on the local computer. To download JRE and to read more information regarding JRE, please click here.
  • Internet connection

Mobile Device: This refers to the cell phone, Blackberry, PDA, or other mobile device you will use to connect to your remote PC using the WebEx PCNow Mobile Access service. If you can go to a web site on your phone or other mobile device, then you can access WebEx PCNow Mobile Access. As we continue to expand, native support for the different physical characteristics of your device will be updated. In most cases, you'll just notice that things look better.
